Significance of Woman in Data Science

Research scientists, regardless of gender, are doing great in this field. This has been evidenced by a great conference "Global Women in Data Science" hosted by Stanford University (livestream) for 75+ locations all over the world on 3rd February 2017. Many talented academic researchers and practitioners have successful connected to make their dreams and goals burst into reality. It has been sponsored by Microsoft, Google, WalmartLabs, SAP and many more A Grade firms.

Another great initiative, Women in Machine Learning has been hosted on Facebook. Many female potential researchers join hands for research in machine learning. Many of them have achieved great milestones and many are still on the way.

The world is full of talented, successful and fantastic female speakers

Women in Machine Learning and Data science are often un-noticable by traditional recruiters and we can turn it down. Another initiative at Meetup.com for group of Women Data Scientists could be approached for healthy discussions.

In the updated Women in Tech: The Facts report, the NCWIT states that women’s involvement in information technology patenting has significantly increased from 1.7% in 1980 to 7.8% in 2010. Also, Triple Pundit reported that women held 25% of the Chief Data Officer (CDO) positions in 2014. The CDO is a recently created executive role responsible for the overall management of a company’s data by developing a data governance structure and leveraging the data for insight. Compared to the number of female Chief Information Officers (CIOs) in 2014, the number of female CDOs was almost twice as large.

There are innumerable resources for women to make career. All you need is will-power and faith in you. Be what you are and what you think you ought to be!
